TV delivery and installation: a practical checklist
Choosing a screen is only part of the purchase. A few measurements and a clear installation plan can prevent a television arriving that fits the room on paper but cannot be positioned or connected as intended.
Measure the route as well as the room
Use the packaged dimensions, where available, to check doorways, stairs, tight turns and lifts. Delivery teams may have different rules about carrying upstairs or unpacking. Confirm what your chosen service includes before selecting a delivery date.
Keep the route clear and decide where the packaging can be opened. Follow the manufacturer’s handling instructions and recommended number of people; a large, thin panel is not something to lift by its screen surface.
Separate stand setup from wall mounting
For furniture, compare the complete stand footprint and the television’s weight with the furniture limits. Feet may sit near the edges of a wide screen. Account for a soundbar, remote-control receiver and access to the back of the set.
For wall mounting, use the exact model’s approved mounting information. A matching VESA pattern alone does not settle bracket capacity, wall suitability, fixings or required clearance. Have a competent installer assess those details where needed, rather than choosing fixings from screen size alone.
Plan power and connections
List the devices you will connect and identify the required sockets before the television is in place. Leave room for plugs and the cable bends specified by their makers. Avoid trapping cables, covering ventilation or making a power socket inaccessible.
Confirm whether setup, bracket fitting, cable routing, old-TV collection and packaging removal are included services or separate charges. Arrange specialist work in advance if the room needs changes.
Check the delivered model
Match the model code and screen size on the box and television to the order. Retain the order details, serial number and relevant packaging while checking the delivery. Photograph visible damage and follow the retailer’s reporting process promptly.
During initial setup, try the inputs, remote, network connection and services you actually use. Follow the maker’s update instructions and save your preferred settings. A quick setup check helps identify practical problems; it is not a substitute for a full performance review.
Before you decide
- Confirm packaged dimensions and the delivery route.
- Check furniture capacity or obtain a suitable mounting assessment.
- List connections and installation services before delivery.
- Verify the model code and record any delivery damage.
Common questions
Does installation normally include a wall bracket?
Do not assume so. Check the retailer’s service description, supported wall types, bracket supply and any separate charges.
Can screen size alone tell me which mount to buy?
No. Check the exact television’s weight, mounting pattern and instructions, alongside the bracket limits and wall suitability.
