How to compare printer reviews
Use expert printer reviews to answer the questions that matter to your own setup. Compare the tested version, findings and conditions before using the overall rating to order your shortlist.
Start with your priorities
Choose the use closest to yours, then look for evidence that addresses it. A product can be strong overall while another suits your particular requirements better.

Read reviews in a useful order
First identify what was tested. Match the model code, generation and configuration to the version you are considering. An article about related hardware can be useful context without establishing how your chosen version performs.
Read the test methods and practical findings before the final score. Look for the conditions used and consider whether they resemble yours. Different reviewers may reasonably emphasise different strengths.
Use the COR Score to summarise the included critic ratings on a common five-point scale. Each publisher counts once and a public average needs at least three critics. Read the critic count and individual reviews alongside the average.
Check dates and manufacturer support separately. An older review may still describe the tested hardware accurately, while software, subscriptions, accessory availability and retailer offers may have changed.
Checks specific to printers
- Estimate normal monthly pages, colour use, scans and paper sizes.
- Price current replacement ink or toner by exact part number.
- Confirm duplex printing, duplex scanning and document feeder separately.
- Measure the printer with trays and lid open.
- Check mobile, desktop and network setup requirements.
- Read support, firmware and driver availability for your operating system.
Keep a useful comparison record
Make one entry per exact model. Separate a confirmed specification from a reviewer’s finding and from anything you still need to check.
