How to compare monitor reviews

Use expert monitor reviews to answer the questions that matter to your own setup. Compare the tested version, findings and conditions before using the overall rating to order your shortlist.

Start with your priorities

Choose the use closest to yours, then look for evidence that addresses it. A product can be strong overall while another suits your particular requirements better.

Your priorityWhat to investigateWhat to weigh up
Office and writingText scaling, height adjustment, connections and glareHigher resolution may require scaling on a smaller screen.
Photo and designColour workflow, uniformity, calibration options and viewing environmentA wide gamut can be inaccurate without suitable colour management.
Games and fast motionRefresh support, response behaviour and adaptive-sync compatibilityA high refresh rate needs an appropriate computer and connection.

Read reviews in a useful order

First identify what was tested. Match the model code, generation and configuration to the version you are considering. An article about related hardware can be useful context without establishing how your chosen version performs.

Read the test methods and practical findings before the final score. Look for the conditions used and consider whether they resemble yours. Different reviewers may reasonably emphasise different strengths.

Use the COR Score to summarise the included critic ratings on a common five-point scale. Each publisher counts once and a public average needs at least three critics. Read the critic count and individual reviews alongside the average.

Check dates and manufacturer support separately. An older review may still describe the tested hardware accurately, while software, subscriptions, accessory availability and retailer offers may have changed.

Checks specific to monitors

  • Measure desk depth, viewing distance and arm clearance.
  • Check computer output, monitor input, cable and dock as one chain.
  • Choose a stand or arm with the adjustment you actually need.
  • Use independent tests for brightness, uniformity, text and motion.
  • Confirm USB-C charging and display limits if using one-cable docking.
  • Read dead-pixel, warranty and firmware-support terms.

Keep a useful comparison record

Make one entry per exact model. Separate a confirmed specification from a reviewer’s finding and from anything you still need to check.

RecordWhat to write down
Tested versionFull model code, configuration, publisher and review date.
Your main useThe two or three features or performance areas that matter most.
EvidenceRelevant measurements and practical observations, with the original review link.
