Find the right fit
How to choose a 85-inch TV
Start with your room and what you watch. Then compare the exact model, its features and the evidence behind its score.
Size & placement
Screen size measures the diagonal, not the width. Check the cabinet dimensions, stand footprint and viewing position. For wall mounting, check the VESA pattern, weight and whether a stand or bracket is supplied.
Picture technology
OLED uses self-emitting pixels. QLED describes a quantum-dot colour layer on an LCD TV; Mini LED describes the backlight. A TV can be both QLED and Mini LED. Read expert assessments of brightness, contrast and reflections for your room.
Movies & streaming
Compare resolution and supported HDR formats, including Dolby Vision and HDR10+. Format support alone does not measure picture quality. Check that the smart platform carries your preferred apps and services in the UK.
Gaming & connections
Check the refresh rate, VRR and ALLM support for your chosen size. A native panel rate and a maximum gaming input rate can differ. Count the HDMI inputs you need and check eARC support if you use a soundbar.
Independent reviews, made comparable
What does the COR Score mean?
We convert each usable expert rating to a five-point scale and calculate an equally weighted average. An 8/10 rating becomes 4/5. Each publisher counts once and the result is rounded to one decimal place.
Fewer than three critic reviews means a provisional score. Unrated means we have no usable expert score yet. The score applies to a model family; it is not a separate test of every size. Open the product page to see the original ratings, links and reviewed models.
About this catalogue
TV coverage & common questions
Is this every current UK television?
No. We currently cover 140 imported TV ranges with 481 verified UK model options; 33 ranges have usable expert ratings. Coverage grows as supported manufacturer and product-data sources add verifiable models. Older and newer ranges can both appear. A UK catalogue entry is not confirmation that a retailer has stock today.
The main results focus on verified UK model data. Earlier site entries remain in the TV review archive. Some brands, sizes and recent releases are still missing.
Why are TVs grouped into ranges?
Retailers usually list each screen size separately. We group related UK models so you can compare expert reviews and then inspect the exact size. Our range total cannot be compared directly with a retailer’s product count. Different sizes and supplied editions can have different specifications.
How do the filters match a TV?
Choices within one filter are alternatives. Different filters must match the same verified model: selecting 55-inch, OLED and Dolby Vision requires a 55-inch OLED model with recorded Dolby Vision support. Missing specifications are not treated as supported features. Counts show matching ranges, not individual sizes.
Can I compare prices and availability?
Open a TV’s Where to buy section to compare available offers from participating retailers for the exact UK model and screen size. Some models have no offers yet. Compare supplied accessories, condition and delivery cost, then check the final price and availability with the retailer. Amazon links are labelled searches and do not quote an Amazon price.
Which score should I trust when two TVs are close?
Use the score as a starting point, then consider the number of critics, the reviewed size and what each reviewer tested. A small difference in an average does not tell you which TV will suit your room, budget or viewing habits.
